Album Review: A Cure for Love – Birds, Beasts, Trees, Flowers (Self Released)

Ohio-based, alternative rock band, A Cure for Love will release their brand-new album, Birds, Beasts, Trees, Flowers, on October 7th, 2022.

Light, airy, smile-inducing and energetic. A Cure for Love bring the sound of alt-rock to life on this album. Where the line between indie rock sounds, pop catchiness and punk rock anthems is balanced nicely. A constant foot-tapper of a release, few people won’t have a big grin on their face upon hearing the opening track, What’re you Gonna Do, Bleed on Me? A track with far more depth than you might first expect.

The rocking antics of A Cure for Love get more animated with Cafeteria Harrison (Isn’t It Grand to Feed the Birds?). Before they adorably pay tribute to Dark Souls with the anthemic Anor Londo, My Heart Burns for You. Cute, fun and dramatic, it’s one of many tracks that just endear this band to you.

Part of what makes this album such a delight is the variety in vocals. Each voice perfectly matched to the rhythms and melodies. No better example is the chillier wonder of Tumbleweed Salesman in the Winter but the following The World is Your Oyster (Willy’s Wonderland) is certainly nothing to complain about either.

The heart and soul that A Cure for Love exude here continues to satisfy. The Lantern is total melodic pop-rock gold, Good Afternoon, Good Evening, and Good Night has sweet melody, and It’s Raining in My Living Room (Petrichor V) has such a catchy beat, it will make you want to run out in the rain singing this loudly.

It’s so awesome that these are the sort of emotions A Cure for Love are bringing out and testament to the quality of the record. Its crowning glory being that it doesn’t stick to a lot of the expected rules that come with the all-encompassing term ‘alt-rock’. A Cure for Love really are their own thing.

A thoroughly enjoyable album wrapped up with the uber-dramatic Pancho, the emotional heavier power of Bonding Over Beet Juice, and the off-kilter harmonies of Unlucky at Cards. Another three hits, another three tracks to keep the smile plastered on faces and another three tracks that help the score for this album get higher and higher.
