EP Review: Out Of Love – Funny Feeling (Venn Records)

London punks Out Of Love’s forthcoming EP release ‘Funny Feeling’ is out 16th April 2021 via Venn Records (Gallows’ label).

Punk energy with poppier rock rhythms, Out of Love aren’t your traditional pop-punk even if there are things in common with the genre. Those being massive choruses and upbeat tunes. Though the rawer production job, snarky vocal style and crashing percussion have it leaning more towards the punk side of things.

It’s what grabs the attention on the mouthy opener, Play Pretend and the supersized sing-along that is Wishlist. The latter’s ‘to the point’ length and layered vocal lines help make this all the more impactful.

Hello Trouble is certainly more of a pop-punker then anything heard so far thanks to the guitar rhythm and the cleaner chorus. That’s not not a complaint though, more of an observation as it’s still very enjoyable. Whereas Dog Daze is a little ball of punky hyperactivity (nice guitar solo) and See Right Thru makes sure Out of Love exit the stage with something you can take to heart while still singing along loudly.

12 minutes, 5 tracks. There’s not enough to frame a complete picture of this band yet but as first impressions go, they’ve certainly made one.
