EP Review: Dead Label – Anthology (Self Released)

Despite the impact of the global pandemic, Dead Label have been busy working on their long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s ‘Throne of Bones’ (which is still very much underway). Until then and to help tide fans over, Dead Label will release a brand new EP entitled ‘Anthology’.

Fans will be familiar with a slew of singles that followed over the years from ‘Pure Chaos’ to ‘False Messiah’, ‘Triggered’ and ‘Dystopian Complex’. Now, for the very first time, and by
popular demand, all previous singles can be found on this EP. In addition, the EP features two new tracks that have never been officially released and have only been heard through the bands live performances over the years.

The EP will be released on the 9th April 2021.

Fan demand indeed, Dead Label are a band we all want more of, all the bloody time. Their brand of heavy groove metal has delighted us and many more for years. So while we eagerly await a brand new album, let’s relish in the delight of this EP collection. Especially as it has two tracks (Dead Weight and Flux) that have never been officially released!

The former of the two is what kicks things off in chunky and groovy style. A frenzy of metal that will have pits erupting around the world. Aggressively punchy, there’s phenomenal speed to this track and it makes you yearn for the live Dead Label experience once more.

Pure Chaos has Dead Label take their foot off the gas with a meatier death-infused listen. The roaring vocals, pointedly sharp guitar riffs and filthy bass/drum combo makes for another heavyweight listen. Triggered then brings the energy right back up with a gloriously frantic listen, the blistering guitar solo making a hell of a splash.

Awesome stuff so far and the bassy build up to a savage breakdown on Flux doesn’t change that. The unbridled aggressive groove here being the stuff metal head wet dreams are made of. Walk that little taller when this is blasting in your ears, Dead Label have your back.

Although if you’re something of a False Messiah, they might have something to say to you. Something that involves them getting right up in your face and spitting fire. Though it is notable here that the chorus has a touch of melody that gives it more of a metalcore edge.

Lastly, Dystopian Complex wraps up a super-duper EP with one final ferocious slab of groove heaviness. The jagged riffs and deep guttural growls hitting all the right spots. Dead Label have been on fire for a while now and this is a brilliant stop gap release until we get the brand new album.

We can never have enough Dead Label produced heavy groove metal.
