Album Review: Sepulcros – Vazio (Transcending Obscurity Records)
Emerging from the underground, Sepulcros spew forth a powerful, majestic form of death/doom. Shrouded in absolute mystery, Sepulcros deliver Vazio. Out on March 12th, 2021 via Transcending Obscurity Records.
Horribly harsh but downright sickeningly addictive, Sepulcros might only be sharing six tracks with us on Vazio but it’s more than enough. This level of bleak and molasses-covered death and doom, there’s only so much a person can take.
Though, be under no illusions, this is still full-length material coming in at around 37 minutes. That’s 37 minutes of lethargic instrumentation dragged and drawn out to excruciating lengths while having the filth and grim of death metal soaking everything.
It’s the unabashed and unbridled horror that makes it all so appealing. The moments when the depths are reached, and the tempo takes a slight upswing for even deeper and darker terror to be exposed. Then, just as that has taken hold, Sepulcros erupt like a demonic entity for the briefest of savage flurries. It’s insane but it is brilliant.
Yes, you really have to enjoy your doom to get the full effect of Vazio but regardless of your tastes, give it a go. It’s a unique combination that really does feel like the depths of hell are being plumbed.
