Album Review: Thirdface – Do It With A Smile (Exploding In Sound Records)
From Nashville, Tennessee comes Thirdface and their debut full-length (and first outing for Exploding in Sound Records). It is called ‘Do It with a Smile’ and it will be released on March 5th, 2021.
Outside of their local scene, they might not be a well-known force but once the wider world has heard this latest album, a fair few more people might be aware of them. Especially those who frequent the hardcore scene and like their music to be the equivalent of putting your hand into an active blender. Or maybe it’s more like slamming your face into a chainsaw. Either way, the result is a horrifying mush of blood, guts, cartilage and bone that makes one hell of a mess.
Do It with a Smile is a mess but in an addictive way. Just like viewing such bodily destruction as described above. Were your sickening reaction is overridden by fascination. This album grabs the attention and holds on.
Bedlam is one way to describe the album. Where only 2 tracks of the 12 go past 3 minutes and many come in at under 1 and a half. Another is lunacy, as the lack of order to anything is like the worst trip ever. Or maybe inimitable, as what Thirdface accomplish here is something unique sounding. Even in the realms of hardcore.
Coming in like a wrecking ball, they’re in and out, leaving destruction in their wake. Shell shocked? You’re not alone.
