Album Review: Revulsion – Revulsion (Transcending Obscurity Records)

Revulsion happen to be one of Finland’s best kept secrets. It’s no surprise that the country boasts of some of the finest death metal bands and with their new full length, Revulsion are sure to be considered as one among them. The self-titled album will be released on February 5th, 2021 via Transcending Obscurity Records.

One of the nicest (if such a word can be used when describing this band) things about Revulsion’s new album is the moment the groove kicks in. Yes, this is a death metal record, there is no denying that. However, peppered throughout is some kick-ass groovy guitar rhythms. The kind that makes you go “oh yeah” and let the neck muscles take over.

Those words will be said over and over again throughout too as Revulsion bring some serious meaty metal to the ears. It’s like their instruments are possessed and they’re here to exorcise the demons. A battle rooted in heaving hellishness; the guitars bring virulent riffs. The bass and drums bring power that shakes the very earth and the vocals howl with the intensity of a horde of demons. All this, constantly and consistently for over 35 minutes. It is almost too much to take.

However, with an evil grin, the realisation that you’re enjoying every minute of this makes the battle for the soul over. Such quality instrumentation has won and Revulsion will just have to come back and try again in the future!
