Album Review: Hell-Born – Natas Liah (Odium Records)
Cult Polish black metal band, Hell-Born are back with a brand new album, their first in 12 years, called Natas Liah. The band was started in 1996 by Behemoth co-founder Baal and Les, also a former Behemoth musician as well as a member of Damnation.
Natas Liah will be released on January 26th 2021 via Odium Records.
12 years is nothing in black metal. Especially if the style you exude is rooted in the old-school, raw and nasty sound. Which is exactly the case with Hell-Born’s brand new effort. A 9-track slice of hellish horrors and armageddon-implicating noise.
This is the sound of the end times and it is gleefully portrayed by a band more than capable of giving it the gravitas it requires. After all, this is black metal and while the sound may have evolved and been adapted into so many different variations, it is always at its core, brutality personified.
Hell-Born’s Natas Liah stands resolute and strong in the face of such bastardisation, even after 12 long years. However, that’s not to say they don’t have their own tricks to show off. A hell of a lot more rhythm to their instrumentation, melodies that break across the mind like waves on a beach and shocking moments of catchiness. All while staying whole-heartedly fixated on delivering war-torn viciousness.
Let’s hope it’s not as long for the next release!
