EP Review: Hermit’s Maze – Every Dream Has Its Bleakness (Self Released)
Hermit’s Maze is an instrumental progressive metal band from Buenos Aires, Argentina, who immerse the listener into a maze of emotions
Cyclothyminis was their debut EP, recorded in 2017 On their official website, the band shared some short stories sent by fans, inspired by their music and what they feel or imagine when listening to their tracks Even more, a whole space adventure novel titled ‘Cazarrecompensas’ was also inspired by these compositions.
They released State of Mind in July 2019. The eleven tracks kept the emotional complicity started with Cyclothyminis. Followed by a brand-new EP entitled ‘Every Dream Has Its Bleakness’ on November 13th, 2020.
Luxuriously comprehensive progressive metal, Hermit’s Maze deliver reliable but unexpected results on their latest EP. Beginning with the cold melody of Bleak before kicking in with some force for the rich sound of Parasomnia. A fast but measured burst of heavy instrumentation drops into the briefest of melodies before erupting in a chunky head-banging way.
Upping the ante regarding pace, the title track’s bass is hurled around with complete and eye-watering abandon. The track punctuated by thumping drums and wild flurries of guitar while dripping in atmosphere.
However, it’s Where Dystopia Lies that really sees Hermit’s Maze showing off what they are capable of. At almost double the length of any other track, it is every bit the progressive journey you could want it to be. An arduous climb where the heavens constantly batter away hoping to loosen your grip and send you plunging into the void. The last few second, the feeling of peace and tranquillity as the top is crested.
Before the EP wraps up with a coarse but melody driven finale. The Oblivion Synergy having as much oomph when it needs to as it does nomadic beauty.
A very impressive EP.
