Band Interview: Boneyard
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with hard rock/metal band, Boneyard.
1. How did you get started as a band?
(Guitarist and singer – Pamtera) Some of Vocalist/ guitarist Pamtera’s previous projects have included drummer Jeff Cunningham. Bassist Dennis Cooke auditioned for Boneyard about four years ago. We started out as a cover project, but have been writing original music for the past three years. While we were learning cover songs, one of our members listened to Sirius satellite radio a lot and noticed the Boneyard channel played most of the songs we did. We decided to use Boneyard as our name mainly for familiarity to the style of material we were covering. Once we started writing our own material, and headed in an all original direction, we kept the same name due to the following we had built up.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Traditional female-fronted hard rock/ metal, with powerful, clean vocals, and includes a European sounding production, with a Canadian twist!
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Mainly classic hard rock and heavy metal from the 80’s, including other female fronted bands. There is also some good stuff from the 70’s and 90’s as well. Bands with great vocalists like: Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Deep Purple, Doro, etc.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Both!
It’s great that you can play and promote your music on these platforms, and control everything. The downside is that with the pay rate of streams being like 0.00001 of a cent, an artist doesn’t make very much.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I have a button business and I make buttons and other marketing products for bands and companies. I have also been involved in officiating roller derby for many years. I love meeting new and interesting people and I have attended the Monsters of Rock Cruise three times, you can meet the best people there and see so many bands at the same time, it’s awesome!
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We’re working hard promoting the album, single and video to build up positive reviews and press exposure. The goal is to make a connection with our songs, and gain new fans worldwide. We’ll soon start on a video for the second single. In the meantime, we will continue to write, record and play. Hopefully 2021 will see enough new songs completed for the next album.
As with most bands, COVID-19 has really put a damper on their touring plans. For now, all we can do is play some local shows. Most of the venues have capacity restrictions as well.
