Band Interview: BlackJack Love
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with bluesy rock and roll band, Blackjack Love.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Blackjack Love has been around for a few years now, originally it was just me (Azza). I bumped into Matt in a boozer one day & I mentioned I needed to get a band together. We’d known each other for a while & I know his old man. It went from there. Sam was found in the gutter with a bottle of Jack & a bass guitar, & Nick just appeared at the studio one day & started jamming.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Heavy Blues / Rock n Roll / Stoner Rock. All of the aforementioned.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Hundreds have! I’d say the main ones are probably The Rolling Stones, The Clash, Queens of The Stone Age, The White Stripes, Jimi Hendrix, Foo Fighters…..the usual I guess.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
You know, I’m not sure. I mean you can get your music to a wider audience, but everybody is doing it. Without sounding all cliched & shit I’d say we write more like old bands. Make albums where you listen to start to finish, not just singles. So maybe a bit of both.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Anything & everything. A few of the lads have families so they enjoy family time. Hanging out with mates. Painting. Designing stuff. Drinking. Yea anything that can take your mind off the music or even inspire you to write something.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We’ve got a load of new tracks we wanna get recorded. So that’s the immediate plan. Getting back out playing shows would be handy at some point to. Then world domination!
