Band Interview: Eternal Closure

Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with modern metalcore/prog band, Eternal Closure.

1. How did you get started as a band?

I (Olivier) was looking for a band and ended up meeting our ex-guitarist Carlos in school. He was forming a band with friends and they needed a bass player. I’d never really played bass before but I was up for it. It wasn’t anything mega serious at first, we were kinda bad but we had fun with it. And then it just became more and more serious with every member change which brings us to where we are today.

2. How would you describe your sound?

Thrash-y metalcore mixed with a modern prog edge.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

We blend the sound from metalcore legends like Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying and modern metal like Periphery, Currents and Erra. Other influences include Protest The Hero, August Burns Red, Dream Theater, Architects and Haken.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

It seems like more people listen to us since services like Apple Music and Spotify have become the norm. I don’t know if it’s correlation or causation, but I’ll go with that.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Most of us enjoy gaming and watching some Netflix, nothing special really. We have a weird passion for cats too, I guess that counts haha.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

Any decent show opportunity would be a good start. The pandemic restrictions are so intense in Montreal that we can’t even jam together at the moment. It’s been close to a year since the last show and we really miss it. As far as the future goes, we hope that our recent release, “Color of Our Fears: Rediscovered” gets…discovered (sorry) and that it helps build our fanbase for when we get back to playing shows. We also have new material coming up, and it’s pretty badass.
