EP Review: Code Noir – Jack of All Spades (Leviaphonic Records)

Heavy rock/metal duo Code Noir return with their second EP, Jack of All Spades, due for release on November 13th via Leviaphonic Records.

A dark shade to the opening track The Devil Within transforms into a delightfully energetic slab of head-banging noise. A track that has a ton of groove to it, as though the devil himself has taken control of Code Noir. It’s a blast of an opener and puts a big smile on the face.

Continuing with the kick-ass tempo, Supersonic is an apt title as it has an urgency to it that makes for an exciting listen. Whereas Words Never Said keeps things super heated, the riffs hot enough to burn and the vocals adding just a touch of the cool to proceedings. Both are easy club bangers that you could see working a sweaty crowd into a frenzy.

So it’s time to calm down and get a bit grander with Monarch. Although sharper guitar parts add some meat, it’s all about the chorus. Something that sounds particularly spectacular especially when a guitar solo is fired off with ease near the end of the track.

Finally it’s one last hyperactive heavyweight with Crucify Their Way to be enjoyed and enjoy most will. The absolute fire that burns from Code Noir and the way they express that into listenable heavy music is down right fantastic.
