Album Review: Soulskinner – Seven Bowls of Wrath (Xtreem Music)
Formed in the year 2000 and with 4 albums under their belts, Greek death metallers Soulskinner have made a name for themselves within the Greek scene in their 20-year history. “Seven Bowls of Wrath” will be their 5th opus and the 3rd one to be released by Xtreem Music. Seven Bowls of Wrath is set to be released on November 11th, 2020 through Xtreem Music on CD & 12″LP formats.
An epic death metal release needs an epic intro and that’s what Soulskinner provide with Tetraktys. The sound of incoming war, of destruction on a level unheard of and devastation that affects every single living thing. Welcome to Seven Bowls of Wrath, try and prepare yourself for the might of Soulskinner’s blackened death metal ferocity.
Try as hard as you can, it won’t matter as the blast of fiery heat that comes from Night, The Principles of Truth and Eternal will leave skin crispy and flesh hanging from the bone. Soulskinner are a beastly bunch leaning into the darker side of things while still being unashamedly savage.
Savagery that is expunged through crushing instrumentation as track after track adds more weight to the claims of utter destruction. Regeneration of the Soul, Primitive Light, the title track, Angel of Darkness…there’s no stopping this level of ferocity. Even with the varying tempos, Soulskinner constantly and consistently sound ready to kill.
By time any kind of malaise can sink in, it’s the end with the scarring brutality of The Destroyer of Worlds and the grandiose slaughtering that is The Death Seal seeing things out. Epic.
