Band Interview: One Of The Last
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with Brooklyn Hybrid Metal band One of the Last!
1. How did you get started as a band?
Our band formed in 2016 when Mario (guitar), Parker (guitar) and Tripp (bass) left their old band to do something different. They wanted to make a melodic thrash band where the music is heavy with anthemic sounding vocal melodies. They added John (vocals) and our old drummer Brian and they both have a hard rock and metalcore background.
2. How would you describe your sound?
We describe ourselves as Hybrid Metal: which is our unique blend of hard rock, metalcore and thrash metal. One of our goals is to make our songs accessible to everyone who listens. We’re trying to bring metal back into the mainstream world!
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Our main influences are Metallica, Trivium, Bullet for my Valentine, Killswitch Engage and Parkway Drive.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
It most definitely helped us and I’d say, most new bands. If done correctly, your music could reach different parts of the world! It’s not like back 20 years ago when someone from Japan would ever hear your band unless they happened to get a CD or tape from “tape trading”. Now, they could type in Metallica and it could lead to Killswitch Engage. KSE could lead to After The Burial, which could lead to Moon Tooth, which could lead to us! Before streaming, the chances of getting out there are miniscule.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I’m a pretty busy guy. This band is basically a full-time job. On top of that, I have 2 other jobs, train in Mixed Martial Arts, I’m taking classes for IT Management and also have a wife/friends that I hang with. It’s a little overwhelming but I love doing it!
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Right now, we’re searching for a drummer but once that’s over, we have plans to go into the studio. Before the pandemic, we wanted to average a new song every 2 months. Once we lock down a drummer, we’re going to try and do that again. We want to keep up with our promoting and networking as well. Once live shows happen again, we’re going to hit the NYC area hard while also exploring new areas. Trust us, this is only the beginning!
