Album Review: Arrogant Destruktor – No Fucking Mercy (Void Wanderer Productions)
Rooted firmly in the old school, Arrogant Destruktor take their influences from the old Black Metal hordes, old Bathory, the Greek tyrants of the early 90’s as well as the old Noise records thrashers of the 80’s.
Following the addition of Californian drummer Clive Parkinson the band entered the studio in January 2020 to record the 3rd full length album, “No Fucking Mercy”, which was mixed and mastered in April. “No Fucking Mercy” will be released as a limited edition 6 panel digipack CD via Void Wanderer Productions on August 11th 2020.
What an apt title. Apt because as it suggests, Arrogant Destruktor have no mercy to give, no fucking mercy for anyone brave enough to hit play on their new album. Eight tracks of old-school black metal with a thrash tinge, it’s as raw as lemon juice in a fresh graze.
It is a throwback but we’re not getting an abundance of this sort of stuff so it is infinitely more appealing. Especially as Arrogant Destruktor have a few tricks up their sleeve. While predominantly focused on delivering blasting blackness and thrashy riffs, the layering of haunting orchestral elements throughout certainly make a difference. It’s the sharpness of those that stand out on Midnight Graves but something that really comes to fruition on the epic length of Scarred Ashen Planet.
A stunner with many peaks and valleys. It’s easily the highlight of the record.
Not that the in your face ferocity of the title track is anything to complain about. Nor the underbelly of evil that sits within Pyromancer and the hateful sound of Dominion Extinguished.
Allow yourself to be transported back to a much more twisted time.
