Album Review: Draconis – Anthems For An Eternal Battle (Brutal Records)

Formed from the raw swamp of subconscious emotions, desires and fears, Argentina death-legends Draconis will release Anthems for An Eternal Battle via Brutal Records on July 31st, 2020.

Angry and spitting blood, bile and maybe even a tooth or two. Draconis’ new album is a guttural slab of raw death metal. One that sounds dredged from hell, filled with all manner of viscous liquids and leaving the listener all the filthier for having heard it.

The snarling and stretched vocals are just one part of the Draconis concoction with the dominant flavour being the heft of the guitar riffs. So strong are those, that it’s often the only thing that really stands out. You might find yourself straining to hear the drums and bass, but they are there.

A mix of devolved short blasts and longer, advanced death metal. There is plenty for fans of the South American scene to sink their teeth into here. Provided you’re not looking for something that challenges the norm, your expectations for overwhelming death intensity will be met.
