Band Interview: Myosotis
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with modern metalcore band, Myosotis.
1. How did you get started as a band?
First of all, we – Myosotis – are a six headed band.
Kilian Harrsen – Vocals, Timo Hazerli – Vocals, Max Mäder – Guitar, Calvin Rösicke – Guitar, Julian Seiler – Drums, Thomas Grigo – Bass.
We have been found in 2017. Kilian set up an announcement in a local blog for musicians and all of us reacted on it. Actually we all come from different parts in Germany but finally met in the beautiful city of Hamburg.
We all had different projects before Myosotis but we directly felt these special vibes, when we first met to jam and we all knew that this is gonna be the one project we all have been looking for.
6 Months later our first EP “Distance” has been release and we shot the first music videos, played the first festivals and the first support gigs, for band like First Blood from the US.
2. How would you describe your sound?
We would consider our style to be the “New Wave of Modern-Metalcore” but we actually do not want to be minimized to a certain style.
Our Songs have a wide range which go far beyond classic Metalcore from progressive and very technical part to Jazz influenced Rhythms and classical Pop Chorus with some electronical backings.
Lyrically we explore the depths of the human mind and process the emotions of love-hate, depression, change and distance and this variety is want we want to convey to our listeners, no matter which kind of music they are usually bound to. It`s about crossing borders but still keeping your own signature.
We combine melodic stanzas and refrains with brutal breakdowns and technical verses contrasted with the passionate guttural and clean vocals.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Our influences have definitely a wide range no matter, if musically or non-musically. We are the most inspired by having the chance spreading our vision and our songs, to be able to create something that lasts and remains. Our Songs are strongly influenced by the time and the mood we have for a certain period. We do not try to keep the same style or genre for each song or for each EP. If something crosses our way we use it to expand our range and our minds. We always get inspired by different bands but we are all 90`s kids and that`s why we fell for the “good old” Nu Metal times. Band like Static-X have influenced us in our early years and in our personal development but we guess you don`t hear it immediately if you listen to our songs. It`s more that these bands opened the way for the kind of music we are making now.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
For us the age of online music and streaming is a chance to be heard easily. That is something we are very grateful for. You can learn so many things by yourself online which are necessary in this business. Starting by recording and mixing over editing videos and photos as well as creating and selling merchandise. Additionally we want that the people can hear our music for free if they want to.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
We have different interests. Max and Timo are married and have kids with whom they love to enjoy their free time. Other hobbies from us are cooking and mixing cocktails. Our famous Myosotis summer parties are always one of the biggest events in the year for us. We make a big BBQ together and have the finest drinks around.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We hope to be able to hit the road again soon. The covid-19 Situation is challenging for the whole cultural scene in every country but we use the time to work on new releases and to improve our live set-up. We just signed a deal with Blood Blast Distribution and hope that this will help us to reach more people with our message.
Our long-time plans are quiet simple actually. We want to spread our message and to reach and move people with our music.
What we do is our passion and to be able to share it with the world is something we are very grateful for.
Therefore we hope the reach out to some new stages and to have some more shows not only in Germany but across Europe. Of Course we all have big dreams and want to play for example in Japan one day but we are aware that this is nothing that come easily but we keep on dreaming.
