EP Review: Dead Posey – Malfunction (Sumerian Records)

Like ghosts from rock ‘n’ roll lovers past, wedded duo Dead Posey’s aggressively provocative sound lingers between two worlds like Jekyll & Hyde, instantly hypnotizing you. Following up on their debut EP Freak Show, Danyell Souza (Vocalist/Producer) and Tony F. (Producer/Multi-instrumentalist – formerly of Eve 6) have concocted a world from the dark corners of their minds with their 2nd EP, Malfunction.

Dead Posey broke into the rock scene in 2018 with their Sumerian Records debut EP Freak Show and standout track “Don’t Stop The Devil”, which now has over 20 million digital spins from their ever-growing ardent fanbase.

Dead Posey’s music has been heard in Fox’s Lucifer, MTV’s Teen Wolf, Marvel shows like Cloak & Dagger and Jessica Jones and Netflix’s Jack Whitehall – Travels With My Father among others, as well as in ads for Taco Bell, Sony PlayStation, Riot Games’ League of Legends, and many more (procured via publishing company Position Music).

While the world is upside down and all touring is on hold, Danyell and Tony are staying creative by hiding out in their home studio, writing and recording their anticipated first full-length album.

Such impact with such few releases, it’s staggering just how far Dead Posey has come in such a short amount of time. However, it’s easy to see why. They have such mass appeal and Malfunction is certainly just going to add to that.

Stirring, stimulating and incredibly wide-ranging music, the fuzzy electronica and sharp rock heavyweight of Head of the Snake is a very robust start. Whereas Parasite is a mouth-watering sexy groove effort, Bad Things’ has an exhilarating dance-able nature to it and Holy Roller is radio-hit catchiness.

Truth be told, if do you have a massive aversion to a heavy infusion of electronica in your rock music then you’re probably not going to enjoy this. Although, it is a major component of the Dead Posey sound, they do a great job of making it sound so grand. The vibrancy of the EP coming from the innumerable abilities of the duo and how they make every single moment feel vital.
