Game Review: Ice Creamz Roll (Mobile – Free to Play)

Another ice-cream roll game, the free to play market is nothing if not predictable. Once one game arrives and proves to be somewhat successful, it’s quickly joined by many other copycats. Most of the time doing even less, just trying to get some of that sweet ad revenue.

Ice Creamz Roll bucks that trend by being a better game then the other free to play version we reviewed (Ice Cream Roll). Simply by having just that little more variety and reason to come back and play.

It’s still not a great game but it tries that little bit more so is commendable for that.

Gameplay tasks you with having to serve customers the exact ice-cream they require. From the pouring of correct milk, to topping it with exactly what they want. Tap to pour the milk, use your fingers to spread it about and then start scrapping. Once in the bowl, three options for toppings are available and you must choose the one the customer wants.

This can be easily identified by checking the order in the corner of the screen. Once chosen, a bar will appear and you must stop the marker in the green area to get all the toppings in the bowl. Do that for as many toppings as they want and the order is complete! The goal being not just to complete the order but to complete the order perfectly.

The higher your completion percentage, the higher the reward. Which consists of random amounts of coins and possible new scrappers. Although the latter, upon reaching its limit to unlock, still requires an ad to be watched to actually unlock.

Coins are used to unlock new skins for your bowls, 18 in total whereas new ingredients are unlocked or bought as you play.

There’s plenty here to keep a player busy for a train journey into or from work but should the trip be that little longer, extra tasks add even more longevity to things. Tasks like earning a set amount of coins, completing levels and opening bonus chests. The reward being even more coins.

Once all skins are unlocked there’s nothing more to keep you playing but by then you’ll have got a few hours of it. Provided the usual ad spam hasn’t made you delete it already.

Yes, we’d be remiss to not mention it even if it is a tired subject and par for the course. Ice Creamz Roll has an egregious amount of ads, popping up everywhere at a steady and frustrating pace. It is as excessive as you would expect which is as disappointing as ever. Expected but disappointing none the less. Particularly because this isn’t a terrible game.
