Album Review: Death Courier – Necrotic Verses (Transcending Obscurity Records)
Legendary death metal band Death Courier are one of the earliest bands from the Greek metal scene releasing a slew of demos from way back in 1987 and putting out an album and an EP in the early ’90s. More than three decades later, the band is on the verge of releasing one of the strongest albums to come from the Greek death metal scene.
Necrotic Verses will be released on June 5th, 2020 via Transcending Obscurity Records.
Dragging their old-school death metal sound kicking and screaming into 2020, Death Courier might be from the old school, but Necrotic Verses is anything but a dated sounding release. Nor is it a release that fakes its savage and brutal intentions. Death Courier are here to melt faces and batter brains. This is not for the faint hearted.
Across 10 tracks; some extensive and torturous horror, others short and violent stabbings, Death Courier emerge from the filthy corners of their early years to cause devastation in the modern era. From the flesh-ripping riffs of the title track, the mental battering dished out by the rhythm of As Heaven Blends With Rot, the mean and guttural sound of Pillars, and the teeth-spitting fury of Visceral. It’s a violent and penetrating listen.
The knuckles aren’t dragging here, instead they’re raised and aiming for your face.
