EP Review: Toothless – Misinformed (Self Released)
Hailing from Wilkes-Barre, PA, Toothless takes influence from the likes of The Chariot, Every Time I Die, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, and they have the chops to prove it. Chock-full of odd time signatures without getting too stuffy, biting vocals, outrageous drumming, and pummelling hooks, Misinformed focuses on the current obsession with anti-intellectualism and the weaponizing of disinformation in the modern age. It will be released on the 5th May 2020.
Brutality, thy name is Toothless.
Three tracks, three excessively heavy slabs of hardcore-esque metal. Beginning with The Neighbours, the screamed vocals and jabs of guitars eventually erupt into a wild track filled with vehemence. Just as you’re getting used to the savagery, they switch back to the isolated vocals and guitar jabs to close it out.
Grinner is a bit more straight-forward. A short and sharp shock to the system with the added psychopathy of Justin Bonitz adding a fair amount of meat to an already rich sound.
Before Toothless wrap up their EP with Timeline: Eroded, a track that lets the guitars do all the heavy lifting at first. The tone muted and dark, the vocals (when they arrive) sung rather than screamed. Although an eruption is coming and although it’s anticipated, it’s still eye-wateringly intense.
