Single Slam: Survive or Die by Compounds
Formed in early 2018 and hailing from Reading, England. Compounds are a 5-piece melodic-hardcore outfit that push the musical boundaries of melodic-hardcore and punk.
They released the singles ‘HOPE//LEZ’ and ‘Nights End’ from their 2019 debut EP ‘Once More The Night Turns Black’, with ‘Nights End’ amassing 10000 streams in its first month and being placed into Spotify’s own ‘Complete Chaos’ and ‘New Punk Tracks’ playlists.
April 2020 signifies an end to a chapter but most importantly the start of a new one with the release of ‘Survive or Die’, a third person account of overcoming anxiety and depression. ‘Survive or Die’ is Compounds most ambitious track to date and is available on all major streaming platforms 16th April 2020.
Certainly cut from the same cloth as modern melodic metal/hardcore bands (think While She Sleeps), Compounds emphasis on hardcore makes them standout from the crowd that little more. This single is a bit of a beast, driven by two major things. The melodic guitar work and the unbelievable fire in the vocals. The latter is less sung and more spat out, a seriously powerful effort.
Layered with complexities, Survive or Die is an apt name as the first listen is such a headrush and so disorientating that you’ll either wither and fade or be energised and ready to go again.
There’s a ton of potential here. Surely a band to be keeping a close eye on now. Check it out yourself below.
