Band Interview: Livonia
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with London-based pop-punk band, Livonia!
1. How did you get started as a band?
We all worked at the same company, except Mac who we gained later on. We all realised we liked the same music with the old ‘what band is that your listening to?’ call out in the office, which just became more and more frequent. We then went for a few beers and went to gigs together, and then decide that we wanted to make some music of our own.
2. How would you describe your sound?
We are like a spicy combo of Pop Punk legends You Me At Six crossed with Don Broco. Really up beat energetic songs with catchy choruses that get annoyingly well stuck in your head!!
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
I think Knuckle Puck, The Story So Far and Boston Manor have really influenced our sound in particular as well as our live shows. Their shows are off the charts good, so we really aim and bring as much character to shows as those guys and just keep raising the bar each time.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
I think as a band it has greatly driven us to be better, all you need to do is watch a few live shows on YouTube and you know what you’re up against. As far as Streaming Music Platforms go, we can’t really bad mouth it. We are on the Spotify bandwagon with our single already on there. Obviously as an up and coming band it pays next to nothing but it’s really cheap exposure to our music, we had 34 listens in Japan last week, wouldn’t of happened ten years ago!
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
I think we all still love going to watch bands and go to music festivals. So in between our band commitments we tend to be organising the next band we want to go and watch! Fun fact- Our lead guitarist physically cannot say no to the words ‘fancy a beer?’ so we are normally propping a bar up somewhere as well.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Our debut EP ‘Hate. Relate. Regenerate.’ Is out on 13th March so we’re looking forward to getting that out there! We also have a bunch of shows lined up for the coming months and they are going to be some of our biggest ones yet, so we are super stoked for that. I think we would love to take our brand of Pop Punk on the road for sure, get on a little tour or two that would be the dream!
