Band Interview: Peralis
Games, Brrraaains & Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with post-metal band, Peralis.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Peralis was the brainchild of our front man Ren, He and our bass player Kalebh were both in the successful Irish metal band Marabou for many years. When Marabou split in late 2018 Ren called upon the current Peralis members like an episode of the 1980’s TV show Mask, picking the right guys for the job and summoning them for the mission at hand.
2. How would you describe your sound?
The Peralis sound is one that pulls from many different sub genres of metal and rock. We like to keep a level of rawness but with an expansive soundscape in the mix. We essentially like to write music from a metal fans point of view. Heavy riffs, heavy grooves and screaming vocals as well as beautiful melodies.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Quite a few probably to many to list here but the main bands who have influenced us would have to be Deftones, Mastodon, Tool, George Lynch, Richie Kotzen, Amon Amarth, Alter Bridge, Toska, Insomnium and Pantera.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
It has actually been a massive help for us in regards to building our fan base. We are very thankful for these platforms. Being able to get music directly to fans is a huge benefit in today’s music industry.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Some things we like to do when not making music are reading coz knowledge is power kids, going to shows and supporting our fellow musicians, eating pizza, then eating some more pizza, listening to records and of course hanging out with our awesome partners, families and friends who have been such huge supporters of our music over the years.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We recently released our double A-Side Single ‘Primal Self’ – ‘Contort, Thrive, Survive’ which is available on all major Platforms, Spotify, iTunes, Deezer, Apple Music, Google play etc. Alongside this release was the official music video for the track ‘Primal Self’. We are set to release our official music video for ‘Contort, Thrive, Survive’ on Friday the 14th of February via the Ren Marabou YouTube channel. After this we hit the road for a few shows around Ireland then we are back in the studio to finish off our EP. We are also looking forward to hitting the festival circuit.
