EP Review: Duskwood – The Lost Tales (Self Released)
Duskwood are a 4 piece Desert Rock/Stoner band from Yeovil, Somerset (UK). In April 2019 they released part 1 of a 3-part EP series, called The Long Dark. The running theme through the EPs tells a story of a Space Cowboy who travels alone through space and time, observing and documenting large planets, lifeforms and structures.
You can read our review of part 1, The Long Dark here.
Part 2, entitled The Lost Tales is now due to be released on February 28th 2020. This particular EP follows Duskwood’s character observing the start of human civilisation, the prophecies of the past and the colonisation of land.
Having well and truly impressed with the familiar fuzzy sounds of desert/stoner rock blended wonderfully with spacey/sci-fi elements on the first EP, The Lost Tales only has to be half as good to impress.
Happily it’s not half as good but just as good with four tracks of mind-bending heavy stoner/psychedelic rock tunes. Continuing the story, one of the major things this EP would have to do is embody the cosmic feel the previous EP did. Which it does, but here the sense of ever growing changes to the universe through the eyes of the space cowboy is understood.
It’s very easy to lose yourself in the hot riffing, bashing drums and weathered but clean vocals of Duskwood.
After a electrifying start with Kenosha, The Watcher steps things up with a nomadic epic. This might be the best track Duskwood have written so far, the melodic twangs intermingled with faster and rockier moments working brilliantly.
Laying the fuzzy riffs down thickly, Oraculum is a proper head-banger before The Island grooves its way towards the finish.
The Lost Tales is another must listen from Duskwood.
