Band Interview: Envy Motel

Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to being you an interview with alternative rockers, Envy Motel.

1. How did you get started as a band?

Myself (Stephen – Vocals, Rhythm Guitar) and James (Lead Guitar) have been mates since forever and always loved playing music together. When we decided we wanted to start a band, it was really difficult to find a drummer. After a few months of looking, we found Luke (Drums) through social media and then, through him, found Callum (Bass) in December 2018 to complete the lineup.

2. How would you describe your sound?

We go by the Alt-Rock label because we feel like it’s the label where we can be most experimental with our sound. Mostly, we want every song we write to be catchy, whether that shines through in the riffs, lyrics, drum beats, so long as we whole-heartedly love it. We put our all into every song we write.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

We have so may influences, both individually and as a band. We all bring something different to the table and I like to think that’s showcased in the music we write. To name a few, bands like Biffy Clyro, Royal Blood, Twin Atlantic, Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Jimi Hendrix are what I’d say are the main influences of the band.

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

We’re still in the early stages of this whole thing, so any publicity or platform to show off our music is a good one. So, we like to think that streaming is the best way we can be heard. People can listen to our music via our Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube channel, as well as coming to see us live.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

If I’m honest we never really switch off from thinking about what we want to do next with our music. We’ve become so close over the past year that we do end up spending a lot of time together, both in and out of practices, gigs and studio sessions. So, when we’re just hanging out and having a few drinks, the chat will always come back to us brainstorming about what our next plans are.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

We’re planning on writing and releasing a bunch of new songs, as well as getting as many shows booked in for 2020 as possible. We’ve applied to do so many shows where we’d be supporting some incredible bands, which we really hope come to fruition. We just want to be busy this year an make the most of it all.
