Album Review: Cryptic Brood – Outcome Of Obnoxious Science (War Anthem Records)

War Anthem Records proudly presents Cryptic Brood’s ‘Outcome Of Obnoxious Science’ out on the 22nd November 2019.

Because of their lust for rancid and rotten sounds, three maniacs started the band Cryptic Brood in the year 2013. Several physical regurgitations of their unique death metal and morbid live rituals all over the globe made them spread their plague in the repulsive realm of the underground. Now, the brood is back from a short slumber in its cave to unveil their new album.

Laying the marker down from the start, Cryptic Brood bring a vile and disgusting kind of death metal forward with Biting Through Flesh. It’s maggot-ridden and rotting noise that you can almost smell. Such is the force of the obnoxious noise that moves at two tempos ensuring a constant feeling of uneasiness. It’s rough as hell but the drum beat near the end is pretty damn good.

With all the threat of an axe-wielding maniac, Harrowing Hallucinations builds towards a sickening crunch of bone and splat of torn flesh. Before Mantled With the Stench of Death absolutely blows the walls down with an assault of feral heaviness that moves at an indescribably slow pace for most of its run.

Then, it’s a short and surprisingly riffy jab to the mushy stuff with Wading Through Remains before the crushing death/doom heaviness of Slaves of Hypnotic Commands and Ferocious Torment continue to show the horrifying growth of Cryptic Brood’s efforts.

Like a person suffering Stockholm Syndrome, what was once an unwanted experience has turned into something you crave. Something you’re willing to defend and fight for.

How else can you explain the rush of blood that shivers through the body as the title track thrums away like flies over a corpse? Or the sweat that breaks out across the brow as demons assail the mind with the head-banging riffing of Haunted By Nightmarish Visions?

Try and fight against Cryptic Brood’s tide, it won’t work and as exhaustion sets in, the power of Coated With Human Skin and Relish in Ecstasy will wash over. Scream all you want, the depths have you.
