EP Review: Nox Irae – Here The Dead Live (Transcending Obscurity Records)
Nox Irae sees members of the legendary French death metal band Catacomb join forces with members of Affliction Gate to create raw, thrashy death metal dripping with old school fervour and unbridled passion.
Their debut EP, Here the Dead Live will be released on November 15th 2019 via Transcending Obscurity Records.
A punishing slab of death metal, the two combined forces of Catacomb and Affliction Gate make a lot of noise. So much so that it’s likely to cause a headache, albeit one that feels earned.
Earned because the heftiness of what Nox Irae provides is a crushing weight upon the mind. A collection of furious tempos and savagely heavy tracks kept to the point. So ensuring the effectiveness of the EP is well and truly felt.
With a bit more care and thought behind it; the likes of All Is Over, Knife Under Throat and Supposed Dead are thrilling listens. Identifiable riffing, head-banging drum beats, some fiery vocals that are almost statement like and even the odd guitar solo.. It’s as classy as it gets for death metal.
