Band Interview: The Golden Leaves

The Golden Leaves is a rock band from Trondheim, Norway. Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with them.

1. How did you get started as a band?

Javier, the lead guitarist, likes alcohol, and after drinking a lot around town he first got in touch with David, the vocalist, whom thought it was a good idea to start a band. After some more drinking he found Torleiv, the rhythm guitarist, at another bar, and then it was set. A few beers later, and some months David found Christian playing drums at a party, naked except for his socks, and he just fell in love with him. After a little persuasion and some clothes Christian joined the band. The last man, Arthur was converted from a guitarist to a bass player (like most other bass players) after he talked to Javier while they worked together. From there on out hit has been full tit (as we say in Norwegian), and here we are. One EP and one album out!

2. How would you describe your sound?

Not a big fan of describing music, but we dream of comparing ourselves as the lovechild of Arctic Monkeys and Rival Sons. Perhaps Led Zeppelin is like our cool uncle or something? It’s easier if you just listen to a song or two.

3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?

Arctic Monkeys and Rival Sons are both great influences. A small Norwegian rock blog gave Lemon a review and called it “a bad version of R U Mine”. Check it out for yourself, we found the description funny!

4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?

Music streaming has absolutely helped us! We have been on a few semi-big Spotify playlists and that helped us getting into Spotify’s algorithms, which again helped us getting out there. YouTube, not that much. We have what I’d humbly call a great music video to the song Rebel, but that is not where people discover us.

5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?

Hanging around the dog park, playing basket ball against nerds, and knitting. Torleiv is the knitting master, but the rest of us are learning.

6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?

We were so unfortunate that we lost our drummer to a polish medical study, so our future plans revolve around a new drummer. When we’re ready with him, we hope to travel the world, showing him of!
