Single Slam – Wave of Death by Municipal Waste (The Last Rager)

Crossover thrashers, Municipal Waste, have just released a brand new single called Wave of Death alongside news of a new EP.

The Richmond based 5 piece last release was 2017’s excellent album, Slime and Punishment. They have now announced a brand new EP will be released on the 11th of October via Nuclear Blast Records. That EP is a 4 track and is titled The Last Rager.

Municipal Waste are founding members Tony Foresta  on lead vocals and Ryan Waste on guitars and backing vocals. Joining them are long term members, Philip “Landphil” Hall on the bass and backing vocals and Dave Witte on the drums. More recently, in 2015, on guitars we also have Nick “Nikropolis” Poulos.

Wave of Death

Alongside the news of the EP, Municipal Waste also dropped the first piece of music from that in Wave of Death. It’s a short track at under 2 minutes but encapsulates everything we know and love about Municipal Waste. A quick and catchy riff with tons of chugging bass and blasting drums. There are no vocals as such, just the occasional shout of Wave of Death in gang vocal style and a few “whoahs “. There is time for a wicked little solo before we jump back into the punchy groove. For a little added punch, the tempo ramps up for the last few seconds with even quicker drums and a faster riff before a sudden stop.

Wave of Death is a short but catchy bit of music with loads of energy and a real grooving riff. It’s very familiar sounding and comfortable in a good way. Basically just 2 minutes of banging thrash metal to get your blood pumping and head banging. It would be a cracking track to get a crowd going at the start of a set!

Post apocalyptic is my jam and I always have a book on the go and have for decades now. From a metal perspective, age has softened my inadequacies and I now operate with an open mind, loving many bands from many sub genres but having a particular admiration for the UK underground scene. In my other time, when not focused on Dad duties and work, I try to support the craft beer movement by drinking as much of it as I can and you will also find me out on the streets, walking. I love walking, I love exploring new places and snapping nature photos as I go.
