Bloodstock 2019 – Band Feature/Interview: Fear Bound

Bloodstock Open Air 2019 is nearly upon us and to say we’re excited is an understatement. We adore the festival and this year’s line-up is simply phenomenal. From the Ronnie James Dio Main Stage to the Sophie Lancaster Stage to the New Blood and Jägermeister Stages, there is something for everyone! Not got your tickets yet!? What are you waiting for!? Head over to the Bloodstock Festival website here and join thousands of like-minded head-bangers for a weekend of quality rock and metal.

Originally formed in 2013, Fear Bound are a 5 piece Melodic ‘Dread’ Metal outfit from Cambridgeshire, with a range of influences noting Devin Townsend and Children of Bodom in particular.

The music of Fear Bound consists of intricate duelling guitar wizardry, an unrelenting assault of bass and drums, soaring keyboards, and vocals oozing with dread. Also sometimes accordions and other nonsense. Fear Bound recorded and released their 3rd, and most dread leaden album “Seize The Day” in June 2018 and are currently working on new material and, hopefully, a new gimmick.

They took part in the Hitchin leg of the Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses events seeing off fierce competition to emerge as winners and earn their place at Bloodstock 2019.

They will be playing the New Blood Stage on Sunday the 11th August 2019.

Interview

1. Congratulations on winning the Hitchin leg of the M2TM and earning your slot on the Bloodstock New Blood Stage. What made you decide to take part?

Thank you! Whilst the prospect of playing Bloodstock is a pretty huge and obvious incentive to take part, the M2TM shows themselves are just too much fun to miss out on. This is the third time we’ve competed in M2TM, and the second time in Hitchin, and as always it’s been a total blast. The crowds have been wild and the other bands playing have been fantastic, the whole event has just been amazing from top to tail.

2. What were some of the highlights of your competition run?

The highlights for us were definitely the accordions and ample quantities of dread. Sometimes it was hard to tell where the accordions finished and the dread began.

3. Describe the feeling if you can upon hearing your name read out as the winners?

Shock, mostly. Pretty euphoric once it set in but we’re still pretty shocked, even now! Having previously never gotten beyond the quarter finals, we were already fairly awestruck to have made it to the finals, to then actually win was just surreal, especially consider the quality of the other bands Hitchin offers.

4. How big of an opportunity is playing the New Blood Stage for Fear Bound? We’ve seen some bands really grow from it over the years!

Pretty huge, but time will tell! It’s really encouraging to see how far some bands have taken themselves following their M2TM victories.

5. What can Bloodstockers expect from you come festival time? Why should they come see you?

Fans of Children of Bodom or In Flames should come and check us out! We will be providing riff-driven melodic death metal and an overwhelming sense of dread.

6. Are you regular attendees to the festival or will this be your first time?

We’re mostly old regulars, some of us were coming to Bloodstock way back when it was an indoor event!

7. Are you hanging about all weekend? If so who are you most looking forward to seeing?

We’ll be about all weekend, and there’s a lot of bands we’re really excited to see. In particular, we are looking forwards to seeing Children of Bodom, Countless Skies, and assuming we don’t clash with them on Sunday, Soilwork and Bloodred Hourglass!

8. What does the rest of 2019 look like for Fear Bound? Shows? Releases?

Busy! Assuming real life doesn’t get in the way too much. We’ve got some shows lined up after Bloodstock and are excited to be taking part in Castlefest in September and Shock Waves Festival in October. We’ll be looking for more shows towards following Bloodstock and are currently busy working on new material which we hope will be out next year!
