EP Review: Le Menhir – Ombre (Self Released)
A one man band post metal experiment, Le Menhir is the work of Paul Sparshott who is set to release his new EP, Ombre. This following his previous release Aube, an EP we rated highly (read our review here).
Three tracks long, Ombre delivers an emotive and depth filled experience as the deep chuggy riffs of Nocturne kick in. The darkened heaviness of the guitars and drums is offset by the clean and pained vocals. Absolutely soaring, drawing us in deeper and ensuring we never feel alone or lost.
Silice is 2 minutes of super-sombre guitar melody and quickly followed by the crushing heaviness of Fossile’s introduction. It drops away into haunted and distant coldness before slowing building back up with the wonderful combination of chugging, slightly fuzzy guitars and an amazing vocal performance.
…and then it’s over. Far too quickly but still leaving a hell of an impression.
