Album Review: All Hell – The Witch’s Grail (Prosthetic Records)
North Carolina’s All Hell return with their latest mix of blackened, punk’d out thrash in The Witch’s Grail.
Spawned in the dark hills of Asheville, North Carolina in 2013 and influenced by a wide array of genres—from punk to thrash to “first wave” black metal to 80’s deathrock and beyond—All Hell have relentlessly churned out their stygian works while spreading their volatile live show to eager audiences.
The new album will be released on June 7th 2019 via Prosthetic Records.
After a short and ineffective intro, All Hell well and truly kick down the doors with their burly thrashed black metal style with Sorcery and Sanctity. Groovy riffing, sudden bursts of speed and warped vocals, it’s an interesting combination that works well together.
The thrashier side is the most present thing throughout the 10 tracks of Witch’s Grail but it certainly isn’t lacking in the fire and brimstone most would expect from the darker side either. One such track that combines the two effectively is the great Into the Trees. Seamlessly moving from frenzied thrash with undertones of chaos into dark and evil rhythm. Wickedly good.
On fire now, Where Devils Once Danced sees All Hell really up the groove in the guitars while the vocals whisper sweet words of death and destruction. Fleurs de Mal is catchy as it spits out speedy riffs and the title track is angry thrash at its brightest.
All Hell then go all out with a near 9-minute finale called the Invisible World, a track that embodies everything heard so far. Slices of protracted riffing, harsh slams of groovy metal and plenty of thrash ferocity too.
