Band Interview: Edge of Destiny

1. How did you get started as a band?
Kraevin: Stan, Astrum and I are involved in another music project together so when the idea formed to start a new band, it was not a question if they would be involved. They are just as passionate about music as I am. We held auditions for a guitarist and Gus was one we auditioned. We all clicked right away and here we are!
2. How would you describe your sound?
Gustavo: I like to think of it as sincere metal with a progressive touch to keep the elements of surprise present, but also with intense and punchy rhythms to make it easy to follow and groove to.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Stan: As a metal drummer, I would say my taste gets heavier, more technical, and more epic as i grow older; mainly any songs/bands that have solid, hard hitting, fast drum tempos, and rhythms, and usually these songs hit me at my core.
Gustavo: It’s hard to just name a few. I have lots of influences from classic rock and metal band such as Iron Maiden, Metal Church, Black Sabbath to more progressive contemporary bands like Dream Theater, Amorphis, Riverside, Katatonia, to name a few. I feel like all these bands have shaped my music writing.
Kraevin: So many! I listen to so many different types of music. And when I am writing a song, I do it on purpose to keep the ideas fresh. I have been influenced by Bach, Beethoven, Breaking Benjamin, Sevendust, Queen, PFR, Sheryl Crow, Mariah Carey, and Selena.
Astrum: I learned to play guitar by learning the 1st two Metallica albums. Then a lot of 80’s metal – Dio, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Sabbath, King Diamond, Queensryche. In the 90’s bands like +Live+ captured my attention. In the early 2000’s it was Seether, Dark New Day, Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin. Add in Halestorm now. There was a brief period where I got into country for the songwriting aspect of things. I’m influenced by everything I listen to. As a kid it was 70s funk and pop.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
Stan: So far (as a band that has started out months ago) I would say streaming services do help us reach a larger audience for a current unknown band that is trying to get recognized by many.
Kraevin: I think it has helped us. We are a relatively new band and we are growing so much faster as our music is streamed and shared all over the world thanks to apps like YouTube and Spotify.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Stan: Networking, working out, exploring.
Gustavo: I spend a lot of time reading, listening to music that I enjoy, and time in silence to calm my mind and get me centered.
Kraevin: Spending time with family/friends, horseback riding, tubing, being out in nature, playing video games.
Astrum: I’m big into personal and internal development so I’m always reading books or watching videos by today’s prominent influencers, thought leaders, and spiritual teachers. I also love being out in nature and anything on or in the water. I also love to just veg out and spend time in solitude to relax and recharge.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
Stan: World Domination + touring + creating new music.
