Album Review: Ulvedharr – World Of Chaos (Scarlet Records)

Death metal machine Ulvedharr are ready to release their much anticipated new album ‘World of Chaos’ on May 24, 2019 via Scarlet Records. The band described it as their most mature and groovy work so far, perfectly balanced between the primordial old-school death metal influences and the modern thrash/death solutions with dissonant black metal interferences that they’ve displayed in recent years.

For the first time in their career the four piece leaves behind the medieval/mythological lyric concept to embrace a modern vision of human existence, controlled by the rules of chaos. This new approach will throw you in a spiral of fear, paranoia & self-destruction.

Time to go nuts.

Kicking off with power, heavy metal power that chips away, What Have We Done’s speed metal riffing and deep, beefy death metal groove makes a bold statement. Combining the best of several metal sub-genres, we have a modern sounding mixture of thrash, death and old school metal. With tracks like Death Stare, Cold War and Fire in the Hole keeping the first half moving aggressively forward. A bunch of heavy head-bangers.

A brief but cold (thanks to the wind blowing sound effect) intermission breaks the album in half before Ulvedharr go back to unleashing chaos again with Fallout and Silent Beholder. The former pushes the death metal down throats while the latter blasts thick thrash riffing and speed out.

Finally we have Pull the Trigger and Vision of Chaos, both tracks sticking to the formula set out already but not disappointing in the slightest. In fact the former has some of the albums best guitar work, encouraging all to let the hair and horns fly.
