Album Review: Black Thunder – All My Scars (Club Inferno Ent.)
Black Thunder is a hard ‘n’ heavy metal band, inspired by the 80’s classic heavy metal and by melodic reminiscences of hard rock with some nuances of groove and thrash metal. “All My Scars” is a mix of sensations, moods, opinions and feelings such as anger, anti-religious ideas, violence, resilience to life, dream, hope and it is extremely personal. It will be released on May 8th 2019 via Club Inferno Ent.
The Devil In My Bones rides in for a dusty and dirty intro before Try to Break Me draws its guns for a groovy shootout. Deep and scarring hard rock, the bassy beat digs away while the over-stated vocals sit heavily on top. Methodical, each word is said with force and powerful enunciation.
Looking for something a little faster? Then Angry Man will provide whereas Stop the Abuse has more venom alongside wickedly good guitar groove that buzzes around the mind like flies over a corpse.
That buzzing continues into Disorder and Pain although here we get a higher tempo guitar solo at the end to push it into a more metal territory. Then Days Could Stop to Run really lays the riffs for an old/school romp that shares a lot in common with early hardcore. The hyper pace, shouted gang vocals and punky attitude works very well. The best track on the album.
The variety between tempos is what keeps All My Scars hot, from the more energetic moments to the more starkly hard rocking groove, it’s an interesting listen. The latter handful of tracks keep that in place for Fly Away, Black Rain and Unrecognised Citizen. The highlight of this trio being the chugging riff of Black Rain although they’re all damn good tracks.
It’s an interesting choice to end the album with a short acoustic number but Black Thunder pull it off. The rhythm is soft in the background letting the vocals control things and the slight rustiness to them appeals.
