EP Review: Wounds – Light Eater (Everlasting Spew Records)

Wounds originally formed as “Wounds of Ruin’ in 2006 when highschool friends Rick and Nate started writing material that would eventually evolve into the iteration of what Wounds is today. Throughout the years the band has transformed and refined their sound through countless hours of honing their craft.

The technical death metal band Wounds is the amalgamation of a myriad of influences that have come together to form a bone crushing and intricate sound.

Wounds was on a long hiatus but returned to writing and playing in late 2016 and the current line up consists of Rick Mora on guitars, Nate Burgard on drums, Franco Caballero on bass and Norman Hale on vocals.

Having signed with Everlasting Spew Records, Wounds is slated to release their first EP “Light Eater” on April 19th 2019 and will then be continuing to write new material and then head into the studio to record a full length LP.

A blistering EP of technical death metal, Wounds come heaving out of the dust with Explosion of Interstellar Terror and the title track. Deep, pulverising heaviness that blasts away at the senses. Both leave their mark even if the lack of refinement means they’re not going to be up there alongside the best of technical death metal we’ve heard this year.

Metamorphosis is an improvement with some higher and sharper guitar riffs and a decent solo. While Fractured rages and rages with sadistic intensity.

It comes to its conclusion with An Undead Awakening, the groove of the riffs transforming into a madness inducing rhythm. All while the vocals demand your attention and the drum beat fires off like a machine gun.
