Single Slam – Anti-social by While She Sleeps (So What?)

British metalcore band, While She Sleeps, have released a new song called Anti-social. The new track debuted on Radio 1’s Rock Show with Daniel P Carter during an Architects takeover but has now been released everywhere else.

Anti-social will feature on the band’s 4th full length album which is called So What? which will be released on the 1st of March. It will be released via the band’s own label, Sleeps Brothers, but in partnership with Spinefarm Records. So What? follows their successful, crowd funded 3rd release, You Are We. You can read our thoughts on that album here. You can read our thoughts on their other albums, This is the Six and Brainwashed by following the links.

We, at GBHBL, are big fans of the Sheffield based band so an announcement of new music is met with excitement. They are an exciting band, politically and socially charged lyrics mixed gloriously with crushing breakdowns and intricate melody. They are also a fantastic band live with unending energy it seems.

Anti-social

While She Sleeps are a 5 piece with vocals led by Lawrence Taylor (Loz). Mat Welsh is on rhythm guitar and clean vocals while Sean Long is on lead guitar and backing vocals. On bass and more backing vocals is Aaran McKenzie while Adam Savage is on the drums.

Anti-social is a powerful dig at modern society and it’s failings. Lyrically, it is well composed and clever with some banging riffs and a huge breakdown. Check it out here.

I like it a lot. I find the lyrics compelling and it is absolutely relevant and a scarily accurate take on modern life. The intro music is solid and immediately catching. The slightly hushed vocals that build up into heavy are great, as is the monster breakdown near the end. I have to admit I wasn’t overly sold on the little section where the vocals end with no music but just a drum beat, or the rap inspired ending vocals, but after just a few listens it has already grown on me.

In typical While She Sleeps fashion, their are loads of harmonised vocals which I love and really cleverly layered instrumentation. While it didn’t instantly grab me after the first listen, it definitely grew on me quickly. Anti-social is a great start to what I hope will be a cracking album. Certainly on this evidence, they still have plenty to say and plenty of passion with which to say it.

As well as releasing a new song, a video and album release info, While She Sleeps have also released dates for a UK and European tour around the time of So What?’s release. Check out the dates below and follow this link for all European dates as well as links to buy your tickets –

  • Owner/Editor/Writer/YouTuber - Heavy Metal and reading, two things I have always loved so they are the two areas you will find most of my reviews. Post apocalyptic is my jam and I always have a book on the go and have for decades now. From a metal perspective, age has softened my inadequacies and I now operate with an open mind, loving many bands from many sub genres but having a particular admiration for the UK underground scene. In my other time, when not focused on Dad duties and work, I try to support the craft beer movement by drinking as much of it as I can and you will also find me out on the streets, walking. I love walking, I love exploring new places and snapping nature photos as I go.
