Album Review: Chasing Dragons – Faction (Self Released)

Chasing Dragons will release their very first full length album, Faction, on the 5th of October 2018. This follows an enormously successful Kickstarter campaign earlier this year where the Hunters (as the Chasing Dragons fans are known) from across the UK and beyond helped the band to reach over 200% of their original target. Faction will be the first new music to surface from Chasing Dragons since their 2016 EP Faction: Prologue.

The band are absolutely delighted to finally be able to spread the word of their new album. Here’s frontwoman Tank’s thoughts about the upcoming release:

“We can barely contain our excitement for this next chapter of our band! ‘Faction’ is finally here.. after three years in the making and a lot of hard work, we’re finally ready to share it with the world and we can’t wait.”

Chasing Dragons 2

The mix of electronica and metal that welcomes the listener to Faction might be bit off-putting as opener as Factionless is heavy on the former element. One thing that is certain though is that it is attention-grabbing, in particular frontwoman Tank’s excellent vocals.

It’s those alongside the chunky guitar groove of How the World Went Black, the power elements of Parasite and the startling pace of Like Gravity that really standout.

The high tempo energy keeps the album moving in the right direction. The catchiness of sleazy Bareknuckle Lover, the melodic morose sound of This Time is Ours and the super-fiery I’m No Devil (I’m Just A Girl) shows just how much range Chasing Dragons have.

It’s never boring and even though it starts to lose traction at the end, it’s got more then enough hits to really make Chasing Dragons’ Faction one of the better releases this year.
