Band Interview: Midnight Skies
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are very pleased to bring you an interview with pop-punk band, Midnight Skies.
1. How did you get started as a band?
(Sullivan B.) We were all playing music before we made this band. Kyle was playing guitar for a rock band while Kalevi and I were in a band together called “Beneath The Spin Light”. We played a show with Kyle’s band and ended up having the privilege to add Kyle months later to BTSL and now we are all in Midnight Skies.
2. How would you describe your sound?
New wave pop punk. Similar to bands like All Time Low, Waterparks, Makeout. It’s a fun mix of pop punk with the addition of beats/top 40 sound.
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Honestly so many. We all listen to a wide variety of music. Anywhere from bands like Blink 182 to Artists like Post Malone, We are inspired by a lot of different groups & genres.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
I think for us it’s still a little early to tell cause we just dropped our debut single and it’s doing pretty well at the moment, but I can definitely tell some things have changed on social media platforms over the years. It’s definitely a full time job being in a band. You have to work hard everyday if you want to make it in the music industry.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
(Sullivan B.) I enjoy travelling, baseball, and spending time with family. Kalevi is my brother so we’re always hanging out and doing something together. Kyle likes playing Hockey, the dude could play in the NHL, he’s THAT good. HaHa!
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
We’re just continuing to write, record, and get ready for touring. I expect us to play at least a couple shows locally in Seattle, and maybe run support for a tour by the end of the year.
We’d like to thank Midnight Skies for taking the time to speak with us. You can find out more about them by checking out their Facebook Page, following them on Twitter, Instagram and subscribing to their YouTube Channel.
