EP Review: Brass Owl – Brass Owl (Self Released)
Playing a foot-tapping blend of bluesy rock, this self-titled release from Brass Owl is all about the groovy stoner riffs, infectious bass lines and sultry inviting vocals. It will be released on June 22nd 2018.
State of Mind’s tip-tappy beat seems fairly innocuous even as the trippy riffs dance around but a frantic increase in pace brings with it a hyper-guitar solo ensuring it’s a far more memorable track. The bass gets dirtier and the rhythm gets a bit more disjointed and deeper for Land Shark before Spirit Song gets under the skin with a sharpened guitar edge and vocals that please.
Only four-tracks long, the feel-good factor of the record ends a little too soon. However not before Mushroom Sally and its slow and hazy tempo casts a shadow over everything. The longest song on the EP, it’s a whirlwind of groovy bass, screaming guitar riffs and hooks backed up by the off-beat sound of percussion. A near perfect finish.
Top effort from Brass Owl.
