Horror Movie Review: Prom Ride (2015)

Prom Ride is a tough watch, in that it’s near impossible to actually get through the entire thing. Every time you think it might go somewhere it doesn’t eventually leading to the most lacklustre finale in a long time. The worst prom related horror? Without question.

It’s hard to think of a positive for Prom Ride. It’s tries to borrow from several larger franchises and films but results in an atrocious film.

The awful plot sees a group of obnoxious and unlikable teenagers kidnapped in a stretch limo while on route to their prom. Their kidnapper, wearing a hilariously bad mask, forces them to confront their secrets while intermediately forcing to them humiliate themselves.

Who is the killer? All will be revealed in one of the worst twists imaginable.

Before then though we have to put up with shockingly bad acting, annoying characters and clichés everywhere. No-one comes out of this well and not a single moment or line of dialogue will convince you that these are real people.

Then we have the way in which it was filmed. Part found-footage, these moments are jarring and frustrating to watch as they’re mostly filmed on phones or with cameras built into the limo.

Prom Ride 2

If you can somehow get through the horrid lesbian scene, the terrible Glee-music video scene and the clear rip off of Sleepway Camp, you won’t be rewarded for it. When the ‘horror’ comes it’s as disappointing as you would expect. The villain’s motivation is very unclear and how such an event could play out is incredibly stretched.

Then there is the ending…oh god, the ending.

Prom Ride 5

While watching horror you have to suspend your disbelief quite a bit. However, the movie in question has to at least try and make the story being told seem believable. Prom Ride doesn’t do that, instead it jams in the most ridiculous twist that just confirms what an absolute waste of time the film is.

Don’t get on the Prom Ride.
