EP Review: Lykhaeon – Ominous Eradication of Anguished Souls (Godz Ov War Productions)

Out on June 1st 2018 via Godz Ov War Productions, Ominous Eradication of Anguished Souls is the new EP from Swiss black metal band, Lykhaeon.

Two tracks, both about 13 minutes long. Ominous Eradication of Anguished Souls is the dark and classic sound of black metal. As raw as a freshly slaughtered animal, Chthonios drips bloody intensity with muddy riffs, thumping percussion and murderous vocals.

The mashup of instruments are a bit messy though. It’s hard to pick elements out, only improving in Chthonios I when the tempo drops and things slow down to deliver a horror-fuelled expanse of metal.

Chthonios II doesn’t do much to dredge the lake but here the rumbling storm of metal has a bit more purpose and you’ll find yourself nodding along to the rhythm instead of trying to find it. Again, it switches things up by dropping into a horror-infused slower beat. Though still delivering unbelievable heaviness and sounding like it belongs.

An EP of two halves. Both tracks have issues with how they sound but certainly provide memorable black metal heaviness.
