Album Review: Angelus Apatrida – Cabaret De La Guillotine (Century Media Records)

Spanish Thrash Metallers Angelus Apatrida return with a new studio album entitled ‘Cabaret de la Guillotine’, set for worldwide release via Century Media Records on May 4th, 2018.

Angelus Apatrida 2

The thrash metal efforts of Angelus Apatrida are bit different to what you might expect going in. While all the expected boxes are ticked with ripping riffs, solid hooks and thumping drums, the vocal styling calls to a more classic side of metal.

If it wasn’t for the injections of pace and deeper heaviness, Cabaret de la Guillotine could moonlight easily as a classic-style heavy metal album. Not an issue at all as the band absolutely impress with stylish groove such as on the excellent Betrayed or the roaring Ministry of God.

That’s not to say that Angelus Apatrida aren’t capable of delivering savagery because they can. Proving with The Hum and Downfall of the Nation that they are can let the hair and denim fly with the best of them.

A frantic effort, The Die is Cast’s higher vocals cements the metal credibility that the band have. Screeching thrash verses, a catchy chorus and an absolutely killer guitar solo make this the track to remember.

Aiming to show how much range they have the penultimate track, Farwell has all the epic hallmarks of a metal ballad but avoids falling into the ‘cheesy’ trap thanks to a stellar vocal performance and a hefty change in tempo near the end.
