Album Review: Katari – Ave, Rex Ivdaeorvm! (From Deepest Records)

Hailing from Peru, extreme black band, Katari (meaning serpent in the Quechua-Aymara language) will release their long-awaited debut album; Ave, Rex Ivdaeorvm! on May 4th 2018 via From Deepest Records.

Katari 2

Playing a primitive style of black metal, Katari don’t mess around. Once the intro is out of the way it comes to life in the most brutalising way. Tracks like Extermination, Impaled on a Phallic Cross and Fucked by Serpents are not for the faint-hearted.

While the old-school style of Katari’s assaults are simple, don’t let that fool you. This is a quality release that drips raw aggression.

That being said, it’s not going to set the world alight as it’s not doing anything particularly interesting and certainly nothing fresh. Enjoy it for it is, a throwback album to a time of black metal that is slowly being forgotten in favour of atmospheric and post styles.
