Album Review: Sørgelig – Apostate (Self Released)
Sørgelig are a Black Metal band hailing from Greece. They’re just released their debut album called ‘Apostate’ on April 10th 2018.
The screeching heaviness of Collapse brings Sørgelig’s blackness to the fore-front after a foreboding start with Apparitions. Raw, old-school darkness within the riffs and rhythm but with a modern approach to vocals that are made up of horrifying screams (think the likes of Ghost Bath).
It’s an eye-wateringly heavy start but one that thrills.
Not that there is any kind of let up in what follows. Cursed Blessing is a savage number, Denying Everything gives off a post-black metal vibe while Worthless and Dead is a terrifying lesson in brutality.
The time spent with Sørgelig is far too short as the penultimate track, Watch the World Burn in Flames keeps things dark and so very heavy. Before you even realise it, the final track The Last Day, The Last Breath is upon you but it’s an epic. Coming in at over 12 minutes, it sees Sørgelig throw their all into a beast of a black metal tune. It’s the perfect end to an stonkingly good debut.
