Album Review: Blutvial – Mysteries of Earth (Heidens Hart Records)

Heidens Hart Records is proud to present chapter V of Blutvial entitled, Mysteries of Earth. This raw piece of necro filth and grim hatred will be released on digipack CD on March 20th 2018. In the classic Scandinavian riff-based tradition of the early and mid-90s, reminiscent of Norwegian gems by bands such as Thorns, Kvist, Strid, Gorgoroth and Obtained Enslavement.

An icy blast of harshness, Mysteries of Earth is certainly one for the old school black metal fan. When Scandinavian darkness caused chaos & destruction. Roaring heaviness, unmitigated fury and chilling bleakness is what’s on offer as Beneath the Moon hammers away with force.

After such a huge (8+ minute opener) squealing feedback welcomes Black Silence, a short but punchy number before Existential Rite brings brutality to the surface. This isn’t black metal to leave you bruised, this is black metal that cuts deeply allowing the blood to flow freely.

Coming in at over a hour, Mysteries of Earth runs the risk of losing some of its fire through repetition & while a few tracks don’t punch as hard, for the most part it doesn’t disappoint.

With tracks like the snarling beast that is Carving Nihil, the booming blast of Midwinters Halls and the ferocious Doomed to Eternal Night you’ll get your fix of vile & crusty blackness.

By time the absolutely crushing & huge finale, Where Graves Spring Open arrives you’ll be exhausted & ready to throw in the towel. Blutvial aren’t ready to let you go yet though as they deliver one final, 10+ minute violent attack. Beginning at slower pace, letting the guitars do the heavy work it dabbles with doom before erupting in a fiery shower of hate.

Ending as they begun, taking no shit & refusing to compromise their core sound. Blutvial might be a throwback but they’re going to leave a mark with this release.
