EP Review: Code Noir – Burn Card (Metal Scrap Records)

Burn Card is the debut EP from Greek/Swedish heavy rock band Code Noir. Six tracks (plus two covers) of high-energy rock mixed with metal and punk elements. The EP was released on the 21st December 2017 via Metal Scrap Records.

An upbeat opening duo, Mine Forever & Crime in a Line show off the bouncy hard rock catchiness that Code Noir excel at. Both are layered with exciting riffs & hooks, the former a bit more radio friendly while the latter has a bit more style thanks to a great guitar solo!

The riffing power of the band really rears its head with The Things That You Hated, the groovy beat is so appealing. As it the punky edge that Make it Happens delivers. A highlight of the EP.

Code Noir finish their own songs on the melodic & softer, Under the August Sun. A catchy showcase of quality vocals & memorable hooks. This is a band that certainly have something special about them, their music more than just bland-rock radio tunes.

A cover of the Ramones I Wanna Be Sedated is fun even if it lacks the same kind of urgency found in the original while the band show off a wider range with a decent cover of Iron Maiden’s Sanctuary.
