Top 10 Most Anticipated Games of 2018

2017 was a very hit & miss year for gaming. While we had some big heavy hitters most of them came from the well-received Nintendo Switch. Seriously, the success of Nintendo’s console has been something of a surprise but with games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild & Super Mario Odyssey it really shouldn’t have been. Breath of the Wild in particular is reported to have sold over 4.7 million units worldwide!

Personally, we missed on playing much of the more popular games that got released due to time-constraints. However, we can say great things about the likes of Resident Evil 7, Prey, South Park: The Fractured But Whole and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

This year we’re going to be working harder to get more game reviews up then ever. So, with that in mind here are 10 games that we’re really looking forward too!

10 – Sea of Thieves

Anticipated 2

Sea of Thieves has been a long time coming seeing as it was first announced in 2016. With its release finally in sight, players will be able to team up & sail the high seas looting & plundering within an open-world environment!

9 – Jurassic World Evolution

Anticipated 3

We love simulation games & always get excited about any new releases. Hell, we even managed to find a lot to enjoy with the tedious Zoo Tycoon. The game promises to be similar to 2003’s Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis in that it allows the player to construct their very own dinosaur theme park!

8 – State of Decay 2

Anticipated 4

State of Decay was a flawed but excellent zombie survival experience. One of our personal favourite modern zombie games even if it did frustrate us from time to time. With years between the original & this sequel, Undead Labs will hopefully have created the perfect zombie survival horror game.

7 – Far Cry 5

Anticipated 5

Anyone who has been played the last couple of instalments of Far Cry will no doubt agree that as much as the gameplay might be getting too familiar Ubisoft are still churning out quality games. Far Cry 3 is considered a classic, Far Cry 4 was a huge amount of fun & Far Cry Primal added some variety by going back in time. The story & location is key to what makes a great Far Cry game & the fifth instalment in the main series changes things up.

This time it’s not a faraway land or exotic paradise. Far Cry 5 is instead set in Montana, USA & sees the player going up against a cult. All the classic Far Cry elements return such as a huge open-world, vehicles to drive, outposts to conquer and animals to tame. Ubisoft are expecting big returns from Far Cry 5, so much so that they even delayed it for extra polish after upping their profits predictions!

6 – Vampyr

Anticipated 6

Vampyr is coming with a lot of anticipation. Set in London during the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, the player will take on the role of a doctor who has been turned into a vampire. A semi-open world to explore, initially Vampyr doesn’t exactly sound that thrilling but underneath the surface is a fascinating approach to gameplay.

Anticipated 7

It is reported that you can complete the entire game without killing a single person, similar to Dishonored. Much of your actions will affect the world that you play in & all the conventional rules that apply to vampires are here. Vampyr really could be something special!

5 – Darksiders 3

Anticipated 8

Who really ever thought we’d get this game huh? After the collapse of THQ in 2012 & the selling off of their assets, any furthering of the franchise seemed unlikely. Yet here we are, in the year where the third game in the series is due to be released.

We’re big fans of the series so far & the introduction of Fury, the sister of War (Darksiders protagonist) is very exciting. The game will see her hunting down the seven deadly sins in a story that will run parallel to the events of the first two games!

4 – Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Anticipated 9

Few games have been given the coveted 10/10 on our site. It’s very hard to find a game that is deserving. Only the likes of Thomas Was Alone, Resident Evil HD Remastered, The Last of Us & Ori and the Blind Forest have been given 10/10.

That’s why we’re so excited for this sequel.

3 – The Last of Us Part II

Anticipated 10

Talking of games that got 10/10 on our site…

The Last of Us Part II is one of the most anticipated games of 2018 by anyone who played the original. So successful & popular it passed 7 million in sales a month before the remastered edition appeared on PS4. A masterful piece of work, this sequel has a lot of work to do to ensure it lives up to the legacy set already. However, there is little concern that Naughty Dog will mess it up.

Story details are light as much of the game is shrouded in secrecy but you can check out the trailer below.

2 – Metro: Exodus

Anticipated 11

Let’s head back into the tunnels…

We love the Metro series. So much that we’ve even read & reviewed the book that the first game was based on! It’s so exciting to see that we’re going to be exploring new locations outside of the oppressive & dank subway system of Russia. Add weapon customisation, a dynamic weather system, a day-night cycle, and environments that change along with the seasons as the story progresses (It will be set over the course of one whole in-game year) and Metro: Exodus promises to be the best game in the series so far!

1 – Red Dead Redemption 2

Anticipated 12

The big one. Rockstar don’t do quantity, they do quality and it’s been 8 years since the last Red Dead game. A game that was beloved by all who played it & was massively successful.

A prequel to Red Dead Redemption, this time the players are put in the boots of Arthur Morgan. An outlaw and a member of the Van der Linde gang. The same Western-themed, open-world gameplay is promised & having been delayed once already to make it the best it can be, this is expected to be the best-selling game of 2018 by far.

So, what’s on your most anticipated list? Let us know!
