EP Review: The Discordant – Safe Haven (Self Released)
The Discordant is an instrumental solo project by musician and producer Federico Ascari.
Safe Haven is The Discordant’s debut EP: a concept EP made of five instrumental post metal compositions with cinematic elements and a symphonic vibe.
There is something almost peaceful about this offering from The Discordant as it instantly grabs the attention with the wonderfully melodic Cerulean. An upbeat guitar led number that has some serious flair & groove about it.
That post-metal cinematic style really comes across with the imaginative, darker edge of Vespertine & the wilder title track. Both dripping with imagination & talent.
Safe Haven is a pretty spectacular EP, one that keeps giving more & more the longer it goes on. This is post-metal that makes you feel good even when it has got a meatier edge such as during Nocturnal where the guitars hit extremely hard.
Auroral closes things out with one final eyes closed, head down, lost in the music effort. A hell of a release.
